I'm not dead!!

1 min read
Yeah, sorry for not having been around for quite some time but I'll try to change that.

I also know that I haven't updated anything for well over a year, but that doesn't mean that I haven't been drawing anything during all this time. I actually have quite a sizable pile of stuff that's just waiting to be uploaded so, to anyone that still cares, look forward to it.

Not much else to say I guess. I'm fine and I hope everyone else has had a good year.

Some of you probably know by now that I'm a pretty big mecha-fan, especially when it comes to the more old-school super robot stuff like Getter Robo or Mazinger Z. Well, lately I've been following the news of Go Nagai's (if you don't know who he is, I suggest you look him up) latest project, an OVA titled Mazinkaiser SKL (Skull) which is going to be a new rendition of Mazinkaiser, the most powerful Mazinger robot of all time.

Until very recently we'd only received a few pieces of promotional artwork for it, but just a few days ago they finally released the first teaser trailer for it... AND IT KICKS ASS! :excited:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTS4s6…

I can't tell you how ecxited I am about this. I'm really digging the whole post-apocalyptic feel they seem to be going for here and it just nice to see a new take on the Mazinger story. Now, I would really like to see a sequel to Shin Mazinger, I mean that cliff-hanger ending was just downright sadistic, but until then this will do more than fine. =)

I really enjoy the new look for Mazinkaiser (even though it almost seems like he took a shortcut through the nineties to get there =D) and that big, saw-toothed sword of his just looks awesome. Ganted, at first I was a bit sceptical about the fact that his chest panels now comes of to form a pair of guns. But they've grown on me by now and I really like the fact that they form the face of Devilman when they come together.

Well, I guess I've rambled enough for now. If you're interested in finding out more, the official website have updated itself with various character profiles, but sadly nothing's in English. ^^; www.mazinkaizer-skl.com/

Some of you guys may be wondering why (until very recently) I haven't been uploading any new art in quite some time. Well, there's a few reasons behind this, which I would now like to tell you.

First of all, some months back our family computer (which we've had for well over five years) completely and totally broke down. Thankfully it was kind enough to give us enough time to save some of the more important files, which includes the last two SRJJ designs (which I really should have uploaded a long time ago but continued to postpone ^^;), before it finally gave in. No real big deal considering the fact that I have my own personal lap top and we soon got ourselves a new PC.

HOWEVER, one problem is that we can't seem to find the instalation disc to the scanner that I've been using to upload my art for all this time. So until we've managed to find it I'll be relying on my school's scanner in the foreseeable future, even though I think it makes my colours look a bit funky. =P

Speaking of school brings me to the second reason to why I've been so absent on the art front on this site. Pretty much since October I've been busy working on my own original, 56 pages long comic, including everything from script, sketching and inking. I recently finished it and I, along with some of my fellow classmates who had worked on their own comics, handed it in to the local printing business. We're going to be selling these at the annual Small Press Expo in Stockholm, but I was wondering if YOU people would be interested in having me translate the whole thing and then upload it to the site for you to read? Obviously this will be some time after the Expo, but still...

While still on the subject of comics, I have, what I hope to be, some interesting news to all fans of old-school Japanese super robots out there. I've recently started working on a fan comic based on Getter Robo, my definite favorite in the super robot genre. I've only finished sketching around 15 pages and I'm not completely done with the script, but I'm actually quite pleased with how things are turning out so far. =) I'd really like to know what you think about this.

Before I wrap this up I'd just like to say that I have NOT forgotten about the guys that Im currently in an art-trade with.

:iconenshohma: and :iconakagigryphon:

It's embarassing that I haven't managed to finish your pictures when there's not that much left on them when you get down to it. But mark my words, I WILL complete them!

Wow. This got way longer than I had first intended. ^^; Hope you managed to get through it all and I wish you all a good weekend.

New projects.

4 min read
Well, I've kinda been on a roll lately and hope to see that it continue that way. Since It's been a while since the last time I made a journal, I thought that I would share some plans I have for some stuff that you might get to see in the future.

First of all I'd just like to say that the "Legendary Mosnters" project have been discontinued for quite some time now, but fear not true believers! I have namely come up with a new idea for a Godzilla universe that will take its place. I don't really want to reveal that much yet since I have to think some things through before I start, but I can say that it will be set in the year of 2054 and that it will retain some of the story elements from Legendary.

But that one will have to wait until I'm done with something that's been occupying my brain ever since I watched Godzilla vs Megalon about a week ago. If you've seen one of my latest pieces chaosghidorah.deviantart.com/a… , Super Robot Jet Jaguar, you might know what I'm talking about here. Basically what I want to do is start a project that's reminiscent of the first super robot animes, like Mazinger Z and Getter Robo, starring none other than Jet Jaguar as the main lead.

This would be my own humble attempt of taking everything that was silly and goofy about the Godzilla series, mix in a good dose of hot blooded action, and try to make it as awesome as most super robot anime tend to be. This could also be seen as my answer to the trend that have been going on during the last few years. You know, the one were alot of people have tried to make Godzilla darker, grittier and more "realistic". I'm always happy to see new interpretations of the kaiju genre, and while that's all well and good, I sometimes feel that some people go a bit too far, losing alot of its charm in the process.

With "Super Robot Jet Jaguar" I will instead try to embrace everything that was silly, goofy and unrealistic about the movies. Especially those from the late showa era.

Some of the things to look forward to:

- Alien invasions.

- King Seesar and Gorosaurus as allies to Jet Jaguar.

- Some kaiju that never got to be used in the movies.

- A whole army of Gigan under the control of the Nebula Space Hunter M.

- The mad Dr Mafune's fine ass cyborg/android daughter.

- An evil, dark Jet Jaguar.

- The original, multiple faced version of Bagan as a possible big bad.

Another fact that I'd like to adress is the serious lack of attention that the human characters receive in the kaiju fandom, something which I think is somewhat of a pity. I know that it's really all about the monsters when we get down to it, but you can't deny the fact that the Godzilla films came up with some damn good characters with a lot of potential over the years. Just take captain Douglas Gordan from Godzilla Final Wars for example. That guy was so awesome that Chuck Norris would crap his pants if he were ever forced to meet him!

That's one of the things I would like to try with both of these projects. Trying to give the humans some focus. =)

Well, that was basically all I had to say for now. If you have any questions about, well, anything really, just go ahead and ask.

Wow. It's been over a year since I wrote anything in this, so I just thought that I would tell those few that are interested what I've been up to.

For the last month and a half, I have been enrolled at one of Sweden's few comic book schools, which happen to be just a 15 minute walk from where I live (really, what are the odds for something like that happening). It's an one year long education were we basically get to learn how to make comic books, and so far I've been having a blast.

It's probably one of the smallest schools that handles this sort of thing, this year's group consists of just about a dozen people, but I think it really gives it a kinda cozy atmosphere. Everyone is really nice and it's awesome to be able to talk to people that share the same kind of interests as you.

Anyway, as a result of this, you can all expect to see some more sequential art and other goodies in the future.

On another note, and this is mainly aimed towards the DBZ fans among my watchers, some of you might recall me mentioning that I've been writing a DBZ fanfic. I'm now in the process of rewriting said fic, one of the reasons being that my eyes bleed whenever I read the chapters I began writing about two years ago, and hope to have the first chapter done by the end of the month. I will then post it both on my FF account, as well as here.

That's probably all I had to say as of right now, but I'll try to start writing journals a little more frequently from now on.
